SLEEP APNEA TREATMENT IN PRINCETON

Sleep Apnea 1

Dr. Lekha Tull, DDS, MAGD, DABDSM, MA, is one of the most credentialed Sleep Apnea Dentists in all of New Jersey! She is passionate about sleep apnea and dedicated to focusing her time and attention on helping her patients who struggle with this condition.

Obstructive Sleep apnea (OSA) is one of the most severely underdiagnosed conditions today. Studies have linked OSA to serious conditions such as stroke, heart attack, diabetes, GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), dementia, weight gain, and hypertension. It is estimated that 90% of those who suffer from OSA have not been diagnosed.

We offer alternatives to CPAP with dental appliances. Oral appliance therapy is a comfortable, effective, and non-invasive alternative to CPAP machines and painful surgeries.

WHY IS IT NEEDED?

Obstructive Sleep Apnea is a common condition affecting your ability to breathe while sleeping and is caused by a repeated obstruction to the airway. The chest and diaphragm muscles must work harder to pull air into the lungs. This problem can lead to excessive snoring, shallow breathing, and loud gasping as you sleep.

If left untreated, OSA can contribute to severe health conditions. Sleep Apnea affects the heart, blood pressure, emotions, sleep, and more. Those who struggle with OSA experience inadequate sleep and problems with their oral health. Your oral health and sleep habits are the gateways to your overall health; with OSA, both are negatively affected.

Dr. Tull and her team are passionate about helping patients with their health and treating those suffering from OSA so they can continue their journey towards a healthy life!

ALTERNATIVE THERAPHY TO CPAP

Here at DenTull, we offer an alternative therapy to CPAP machines and painful surgeries. Oral Appliance Therapy is a comfortable and non-invasive treatment for OSA and fits easily into your lifestyle. This treatment improves your quality of life and can make you feel like a new person!

This treatment is a custom-designed mouthguard that is very thin. The mouthguard fits on your teeth like an orthodontic retainer and is only needed while you sleep. This mouthpiece is not designed for high-impact but to keep the tongue in place and separate the teeth as little as possible. Stabilizing the tongue and separating the teeth removes any physical blockages from the upper airway.

While CPAP machines are the most popular treatment for sleep apnea, Oral Appliance Therapy is proving very effective and becoming increasingly popular. These mouthpieces offer many advantages over breathing devices like the CPAP. Many patients experience improved sleep just days after beginning this treatment.

Patients must meet specific criteria to qualify for this treatment. We require you to go through an assessment at our office that will help us determine if you are eligible. If necessary, we may order a sleep study. A sleep study center would complete this assessment outside of our practice.

Oral Appliance Therapy mouthpieces are portable and compact, offering convenience. They are discreet and easy to use, unlike the breathing device alternatives. This custom-made mouthpiece can help to revitalize your health! Dr. Tull and the team are highly experienced in this area and look forward to assisting you! If you struggle with OSA, this therapy is worth looking into and learning more about.

COMPLETION TIME

Sleep Apnea 2

This therapy is non-invasive and does not require surgery, so it is the preferred treatment for OSA. It can take time to adjust to wearing an Oral Appliance Therapy mouthpiece like any other dental treatment. Dr. Tull specializes in this treatment and prefers it over the alternatives.
